You might wish to open a Dutch bank account during your stay. This is what you need to open one:
- A residential adress
- A BSN- number
- Your ID
Residentail Adress
A residential address in the Netherlands is mandatory for a Dutch bank account.
If you do not live in the Netherlands, it can be more difficult to request a new Dutch bank account.
If you are tax resident in the United States, it is not possible to open a checking account at some banks.
BSN
You will receive a citizen service number (BSN) when you are registered in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP). If you live outside the Netherlands, you do this in person at one of the 19 municipalities with an RNI counter in the Netherlands. In a number of cases it is possible to obtain a BSN through another organization, for example the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) or the Tax Authorities.
ID
The bank always asks for your citizen service number. So make sure you have that on hand.
